I am a suburbanite—born and bred—and still live in Chicago’s western suburbs. I attended our great public schools and as my high school graduation approached I signed up to fly helicopters for the Marines. When bad eyesight killed that dream, I defaulted to college. It didn’t go well and a few lost years later I was out in the world laying bricks and selling floor-tile and repossessing cars. Then I met my wife, Diane, and got my head on straight and went back to college and earned a BA in Economics and a JD from Northern Illinois University. Go Huskies!
After a couple decades lawyering I am now a crime writer.
